Oman: The Ministry of Education, represented by the Omani National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, has announced that the tenth of February of each year will be designated as an annual day to celebrate the memory of the globally influential Omani personalities included in the UNESCO list to celebrate the fiftieth or centenary of important historical events and globally influential personalities. It is the day that coincides with the accession of the Sultanate of Oman to the UNESCO on the tenth of February 1972 AD, and the celebration of this day comes with the aim of introducing influential Omani personalities at the local and international levels, and shedding light on their knowledge and scientific heritage.
Her Excellency Dr. Madiha bint Ahmed Al Shaibaniyah, Minister of Education and Chairperson of the Omani National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, said: “The celebration comes to allocate an annual day for Omani personalities included in the program of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to celebrate the fiftieth or centenary of important historical events and globally influential personalities.” In the context of the interest of the Sultanate of Oman in the Omani creative thought throughout history, and in the scientific stock that it left for humanity, which undoubtedly exceeded the boundaries of the place to launch into a wide global horizon, many learned from this science, and others benefited from practical experiences and skills in several fields such as: medicine, navigation, geography and literature And others, as some researchers at the regional and global level dealt in their dissertations with research and study on Omani personalities with a global impact, in addition to the embrace of many libraries in the world for Omani manuscripts, in addition to the interest of research centers and contemporary universities in dealing with these personalities and their scientific impact, which undoubtedly constitutes a point A pivotal study that contributed to enhancing the scientific legacy of Omani personalities and sustaining them across the globe t.
Her Excellency indicated, “In the midst of what the world is witnessing today in terms of scientific additions and technical innovations, preserving this scientific heritage remains a lofty goal, as it constitutes a beacon of science and educational radiation, and a reflection of the eternal Omani cultural identity, which in itself constituted a distinguishing mark that distinguished Omanis and their sciences among the world.”
Her Excellency the doctor explained, “We have to proceed from this cultural heritage and pass it on to future generations, in order to build the future of this dear country with it, and for this reason, the responsibility placed on these generations is great to preserve the cultural heritage of their country, and to continue what the first Omanis who contributed to building bridges reached Communicating with other civilizations, perpetuating their role in strengthening the Omani identity, and highlighting the Sultanate of Oman on the world map.

His Excellency pointed out that the Sultanate of Oman, through its cultural institutions, was keen to strengthen its presence in this program through the number of influential Omani personalities globally, and the beginnings were in 2005 with the beginning of the establishment of the program with the inclusion of Khalil bin Ahmed Al-Farahidi, then the doctor and pharmacist Rashid bin Amira in 2013, and the polymath And the social reformer Noureddine Al-Salmi in 2015, and in the sciences of medicine and physics, the doctor and physicist Abu Muhammad Al-Azdi “Ibn Al-Dhahabi” was included in 2015, and in the field of poetry and journalism, Abu Muslim Al-Bahlani in 2019, and recently in 2021 AD the Omani navigator Ahmed bin Majid was included among the influential personalities celebrated by UNESCO.
In order to enhance the importance of this program in highlighting the influential historical Omani personalities at the global level, His Excellency affirmed that coordination is taking place between the concerned authorities in this regard to prepare the necessary nominations for a number of influential historical Omani personalities, who left a great human legacy on the world stage in many fields, especially And that the Sultanate of Oman has a great knowledge and civilizational balance that could be a major enabler in this field, as we seek, through the objectives of the cultural strategy, to highlight the intellectual and cultural aspects of the Sultanate of Oman and document them at the global level, and the UNESCO program for important historical events and globally influential personalities is one of the UNESCO programs, which It aims at what is equivalent to these objectives, the cultural status of the Sultanate of Oman on the world stage.

He wrote many books that enriched the Omani and Arabic libraries and the foreign library as well, as some of his works were translated into a number of languages .. Sheikh Al-Salmi left many books that exceed twenty titles.

The UNESCO program included Abu Muhammad Abdullah bin Muhammad Al-Azdi (Ibn Al-Dhahabi), who was born in Sohar, and became famous by his nickname Ibn Al-Dhahabi.
